Tae Kwon Do
At Premier Tae Kwon Do we are privileged to offer instruction in the Jhoon Rhee Tae Kwon Do system. Grandmaster Jhoon Rhee is the "grandfather of North American Tae Kwon Do". Our Owner and Head Instructor, Gary Pruett, received instruction and his Black Belt from Grandmaster Rhee, personally. Tae Kwon Do is a Korean Martial Art that focuses on strikes with the hands and feet. Physical fitness, flexibility, speed and power are all points of emphasis in training. Respect, self-discipline and martial arts etiquette comprise the core of our school's philosophy, traditions and teachings. We have one of the most flexible and accessible schedules in the industry for our Tae Kwon Do classes. This includes an Adults-Only class and afterschool pickup from Great Oaks Elementary. Please follow the "Schedule" link above for all our class offerings. Please stop by for more information on our exciting Tae Kwon Do program and start your Black Belt journey today! Remember, your first month of classes is absolutely free.
Premier Jhoon Rhee Tae Kwon Do is excited to have new class offerings for 2010 including MMA for Self-Defense. This class is taught by Instructor Michael Kasper. This class is offered on Sundays from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The first month is completely free of charge. After the first month, the cost of the class is $45.00/month. Please visit the devoted website, for this class, for more details, including a link to our YouTube page with video demonstrations: www.MMA4SD.com While Mixed Martial Arts is one of the fastest growing sports in the country, the concept of "mixed martial arts" as a self-defense concept has existed for decades. Pioneers such as Bruce Lee and the Gracie/Machado families, Pancrase, Shooto, Jeet Kune Do, Krav Maga, Kapap, Shoot Wrestling and Vale Tudo have helped to educate the martial arts world of the need for a well-rounded self-defense system. We are proud to offer self-defense classes that focus on a fluid system of Mixed Martial Arts for self-defense. Striking (long and close range) and Grappling (standing and groundwork) are equally emphasized. Personal Self-Defense is the paramount focus of this class, rather than sport MMA. There are no referees and no one is wearing a "gi" in real-life; so you won't find them in these classes either. Vital point attacks (strikes to the eyes, throat, groin and joints) are combined with a solid Striking and Grappling core to construct an outstanding system of personal self-defense. Strikes include, but are not limited to; eye gouges, punches, elbows, kicks, and knees that are harmoniously blended with transitions to trapping and grappling ranges. Greco-Roman takedowns and Gracie Combatives form the core of our Grappling system. This class is not about Belt Rank and there are no Forms (Katas). Self-Defense, Self-Discipline, Self-Confidence and a good workout are what this class is all about. See Mr. Kasper for more details on this outstanding new class.

Youth "No-Gi" Grappling (boys and girls ages 6 to 11 years)
Premier Jhoon Rhee Tae Kwon Do is excited to have new class offerings for 2010 including Youth No-Gi Grappling. This class is taught by Instructor Michael Kasper and is offered on Friday evenings from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The first month is completely free of charge. After the first month, the cost of the class is $45.00/month. Training in this class includes, but is not limited to; standing grappling (Judo/Jiu-Jitsu throws, Greco-Roman takedowns, breakfalls, rolls) and ground work (position control and reversal, the "guard", the "mount" and Jiu-Jitsu joint locks). All of the techniques in this class will be taught without a "gi" (martial arts uniform) and will focus on self-defense, rather than sport grappling. Due to the age of the students involved, NO CHOKES will be taught in this class; neither blood chokes nor wind chokes. No-Gi Grappling can help round out the skills of our current Tae Kwon Do students by increasing their skill and proficiency in close-range self-defense. Any eligible young person may take this class, however, they DO NOT have to be a Tae Kwon Do student. Please see Mr. Kasper for additional details on this exciting new class.

Women's Self-Defense (8-week program on Friday nights)

Our Women's Self-Defense class is taught by instructor Michael Kasper and is offered on Friday evenings from 8:15 PM to 9:15 PM. This 8-week program costs only $125.00/student FOR THE ENTIRE TWO MONTHS. Half of the tuition is due at the time of the first class, half by the fifth class. Many schools and gyms claim to offer a thorough Women's Self-Defense program, so you may be asking: "What makes this one different?" We're so glad you asked, what follows are the reasons our program is the best one for you... 1) You will have a female workout partner. Most women sign-up with a partner already but if you don't have one, you will get to meet a new friend at your first class! Your workout partner is very important for two reasons. First, you should get together with your workout partner at least a couple of times a year to review your self-defense techniques to prevent "rust". Second, having a workout partner for the duration of the 8-week course gives you someone to practice with at every class and between classes. 2) There will be a female assistant instructor at each 8-week course. This assistant will demonstrate the techniques on the participants meaning that AT NO POINT in the 8-week course will you be grappling with any male, including Mr. Kasper. This frees the participants to go "all out" in each technique while maintaining a comfortable workout environment. Once you are proficient in these techniques, you can always practice on your husband/brother/father/uncle... the family that grapples together, stays together! 3) Many "women's" self-defense programs don't specialize their techniques for... WOMEN! This one does. Mr. Kasper and his previous female students have worked together to fine tune Striking and Grappling techniques to enhance the physiological skill sets common to many women. Speed, flexibility and lower-body strength are points of emphasis. Also, time is spent in the course on scenarios specialized to help women with rape and assault avoidance. As a visible contrast see how a "chubby man" might use upper body strength to defeat this ground choke, a woman's increased flexibility and lower body strength give her an obvious advantage over her attacker, in this video comparison: Video Link: Men's Ground Choke Counter Video Link: Women's Ground Choke Counter We hope you never have to use the techniques you learn in this program. Your self-esteem, awareness and confidence levels; however, will be forever enriched. The intangible and empowering benefits of Self-Defense training will serve you in all aspects of your life. See instructor Michael Kasper, email MichaelKasper@MMA4SD.com, or call (512) 807-8223 for more details on this innovative Women's Self-Defense Program.
